STORY TIME – GET YOUR KIDDOS TO A LOCAL LIBRARY FOR SOME PARENTING SANITY
Whether you have a curious baby, a little one who already LOVES books, a small tornado that has not quite learnt to appreciate them yet, or a developing young reader, story times are a parenting godsend. With stories, songs, finger plays, rhymes, sometimes crafts and post story time play (as well as much needed parent-to-parent chatter), it is very likely these could become a favorite feature of your week. They are fun, free, and offer great bonding time with your children (with activities that you neither had to organize or make up for a short part of the day anyway!) Get your children to one of the story times of the inestimable Valerie, Canton Free Library’s children’s librarian, to the great story times at Potsdam, and others in our towns and villages beyond.
Of course, our libraries are useful for much much more than just story times – for instance, being used as libraries were originally intended… to read, browse and take books out on loan! We are lucky. Individually many of our larger local libraries have great children’s book collections – but given the close proximity between many of our towns and villages, it’s easy to check out holdings from their collections too. This provides a truly vast array of books to binge on. Don’t forget that you can also order books from elsewhere in the entire Northern New York Library Network, so if there is a special book or series that you really want to get your hands on (or are being begged to do so), there is a good chance you will be able to find them that way too.
