The North Country: Towns and Villages
"The North Country", while a wonderfully evocative name, is not very clear in its geographic and regional definition. To be specific, in this 'guide' we use it to refer to the northern reaches of New York State and environs. However, as much that is collated in these pages has been gleaned primarily from local resources, word-of-mouth, and happy accident, it is no surprise that it is somewhat limited in scope to those places that we know best. This falls in and around the towns of Canton and Potsdam NY, but extends as far north as Ottawa and Montreal, east to Saranac, Lake Placid, Plattsburgh and Burlington, west to Watertown, and south to Old Forge.
