Children's Museums (a.k.a. extra fun imaginative play spaces!)

Children's Museums are the exact opposite of traditional grown-up museum spaces, they say YES PLEASE DO touch, build, move, stack, sell, dress-up, pour, poke, prod, create and imagine. We have one fantastic space opening RIGHT HERE IN POTSDAM in February 2018, another in Ogdensburg, and the vast and absolutely not to be missed national children's museum in Gatineau, Quebec - just across the river from the center of Ottawa, Ontario... so all within an approximately 2 hours drive radius! Further afield there are others in New York state and beyond that we hope you will explore should you find yourself in the vicinity.

Besides dedicated children's museums there are also several museums of science and technology, and natural history, that you and your children can get lost (hopefully not literally!) and emmersed in.

Explore the terrain of northern America by canoe, go fishing, build an open fire, experience the wild west, tend to the stables, brush down the horse, play dress up, organize your emergency response vehicles, look after the babies, shop for groceries, get cooking in the kitchen AND do crafts in the specially dedicated arts room.  This place is a little gem. Its FREE. Don't miss it.

ECHO Champ Lane screen grab.png

ECHO: Leahy center for lake champlain, BURLINGTON VT

A fabulous aquarium and science center located on the waterside in downtown Burlington VT.  Besides all of the live animal exhibits, ECHO has a lot of hands on science stations as well as dedicated children's exhibitions where they can have tons of fun learning through play. Don't miss a visit to Champ Lane (featured above), for children 0-6.  During the summer ECHO also offers day and week-long camps for older children.

children's museum, canadian museum of history, gatineau QC

There are tremendous advantages to being situated not far from Canada's capital city, and this is one of them. The national Children's Museum is a vast complex within the Canadian Museum of History, and it is truly amazing to behold - as adults, yet alone children. This not only gives you the 'normal' children's museum scenarios (cooking, shopping, science etc.), but introduces young minds and bodies to places and cultural experiences from around the whole world.

Admission is a little pricey, but if you can afford it buy the annual membership and enjoy it over and over again. (Membership also gains you entrance to the rest of the museum, should you need some time-out from being forced - for the umpteenth time - to sit in the bus from Pakistan and look enthusiastic while your child "drives").
